LIST OF KEY ART WORKS ("YAGER'S YELLOW YAGES")

The list below is intended as a reference guide to help you keep track of artist's names, dates and styles as we look at works in Europe. You are not expected to memorize the information on the list. Use it as you might use a telephone book or a dictionary. I suggest that you keep the relevant pages handy as we visit art museums and sites.

The list is a tentative one. We will not see every work listed here. On the other hand we will inevitably see some works that are not included on the list. Time limitations, the availability of specific works, and the itinerary of this particular tour will all play a part in determining the actual works that we see and study.

Some notes on the organization of the list:

• Museums and architectural edifices are listed in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
• A "c." accompanying a date indicates an approximate date.
• Although designations of style are useful in helping to classify works of art, they are often oversimplified and sometimes misleading. Some works fit into more than one stylistic category while others defy classification altogether. The latter are indicated by a blank space under style on this list.
• Nationality (NATION) refers to the origin of the artist or culture that produced the work, not necessarily the country or state where the work was created.
• The column headed PREBLE 7th contains the number of the illustration in Preble, Preble & Frank's ARTFORMS (7th edition) that corresponds to the work on the list.
